:) Blog Reflection # 5ive ;)

Wow... this is our last week. :(
I have had a great online experience with this course. I actually feel that I had more interaction with fellow students in this type of class rather than in a classroom. I take as many online classes because its easier with two children. We have responded to each others comments on forums and our blogs. You get a feel for your classmates and who they are. I have taken classes to where there will be little or NO interaction with my and the person across the room or even just a few seats away.
Online classes are only harder if you don't know how to manage your work. I hear that these classes are hard all the time, but that's not true. If you set a schedule for each class and how long you will spend on each assignment, it will be a breeze! You actually get to see upcoming assignments and can get ahead of the schedule with online classes. You can view the calendar and finish upcoming work early. I would have preferred to use an online course for Library because of my personal situation. If i could, I would take all four classes on campus, but I have to work! :(

In conclusion, this class was great as well as all online classes that are offered. I wish more of my classes for my major (Human Services) were available to me. I also hope more are offered at Cal State Long Beach when I transfer. Online class experiences are great!!

BloG RefLecTioN #4

Now that we have two weeks left, I can honestly say I have learned so much in this Library class. I have really developed new skills in the world of research. I now understand the importance of currency on research and validility of the site I am searching. I have also learned to appreciate an actual Library!! :)
I loved the piece that was available to see on youtube. It was a very creative clip of "research."

Information Competency to me is the ability to effectivly search for information needed to perform reasearch. It is the ability to organize, analyze, and compose facts on topics you are reasearching. It is having the knowledge to gather notes from internet resources and paper/text sources as well., to produce the research paper you are aiming for.

I can say... " YES I AM. I AM AN INFORMATION COMPETENCY STUDENT!"
And I can say that and feel confident. With one more week ahead of us, I feel I can take with me the ability to find new sites that offer proper and valuable resourses. I now know how to search them effectivly and I will take that with me throughout my college years.

I am really glad I have taken this course!!

Blog Reflection 3

I can't believe we are almost finished!! It seems just like last week I was typing up my introduction bio. Anyhow, my opinion on research has REALLY changed. When I would search history issues or anything for that matter, I would only use search engines such as Yahoo or Google. Now that I know more about subject directories, I will definitely use those more. I saved many links to my Favorites list to use in the future. Search engines sometimes give you a bunch of junk when you need critical information. I love that statistics are available for us to see and do research on. There is so many things to learn in the world of "Research." I will definitely keep my book and notes and anything I can save from this class to help me do research for many of my courses to come. This class has really made it easier to find information on the Internet and library. I will definitely take with me the knowledge I have gained in this class to use in the future and to aid my 18 year old brother who will be entering a 4-year University this fall. I think it will make his freshman year a bit easier in regards to researching.

Blog Reflection 2

I am really enjoying this class! I am really learning alot about all the services and resources that are available in libraries. My opinions has slightly changed...for the better. I know think (and know) the importance in actually visiting a library rather than only reasearching online for information. And actually, time goes by really fast when you are there looking for information critical to the information that you need. Libraries will always be needed becuase the internet will Never hold everybook online available. There are great books that were written by great authors that you wont be able to type up. It also provides you the environment to concentrate on your assignments. You wont be tempted to check your email or shop. The internet plays a huge role in my life. I am an internet lover. I bank online, shop, pay bills (saves stamps), and keep incontact via email with friends and family. I love the internet, but I think the library cannot be matched when it comes to reasearching information.
